Blue Crystal Aztec Mask

The Maskette pendant above of greenish blue glass, back of head is flat and pierced at the top to be worn as a pendant. The style of the maskette carefully follows that of human figural representations typical of Teotihuacan culture (AD 200-500), located northeast of Mexico City.  Acquired in Mexico by F. W. Kaldenberg by October 1912
given the to Boston Museum of Fine Arts October 1912 by F. W. Kaldenberg.  Unfortunately this GLASS mask is of modern origin - made 1850–1910 from telegraph insulator glass!

Jane Walsh holds a skull carved from crystal, which was donated to the
Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in 1992.
Close analysis revealed that it is a 20th-century creation and not an ancient artifact.
